When should I choose a dome camera over a bullet or turret?
Dome cameras are best for indoor ceiling mounting, discreet outdoor positions on soffits and eaves, and any application where you want the camera to disappear into the environment. Bullet cameras give more obvious deterrent presence and longer IR range. Turret cameras sit between the two — outdoor-ready like a bullet but more compact like a dome.

This classifies every moving object as human, vehicle or environmental, and only triggers alerts for humans and vehicles — cutting false alarms by roughly 95% compared to conventional motion detection. Can Hikvision dome cameras work in full darkness?
Yes. Standard dome cameras switch to infrared at night and produce clear black-and-white footage up to the IR range of the specific model (typically 30 to 50 metres). ColorVu dome models go further, delivering full-colour footage in near-complete darkness using F1.0 large-aperture lenses and high-performance sensors. ColorVu is preferred for any position where you need to identify clothing or vehicle colour at night.
