ColorVu keeps full-colour video down to 0.0005 lux using an F1.0 lens, combined with AcuSense AI detection and an active light-and-audio deterrent in every camera. Easy CCTV is an owner-operated CCTV installer based in Pretoria East, installing Hikvision and TP-Link security cameras across Pretoria, Centurion, Midrand and Johannesburg since 2013. All Hikvision hardware carries a 3-year South African warranty.
Looking for ColorVu CCTV installation in Pretoria? This is our flagship tier: Hikvision cameras that see in full colour at night, classify people and vehicles with AcuSense AI, and actively deter intruders with light and sound the moment they are detected.
Standard cameras switch to black-and-white infrared when the light drops, losing exactly the information that matters for identification: clothing colour, vehicle colour and physical description. ColorVu keeps it, which is the difference between “a person in a dark top” and “a man in a navy jacket carrying a red bag” when you report an incident to SAPS.

What is Hikvision ColorVu?
ColorVu is Hikvision’s full-colour night vision technology. A large F1.0 aperture lens lets in roughly four times more light than a standard F2.0 lens, and a high-sensitivity sensor turns that light into colour video in conditions where other cameras see only grey.
Colour at Night
Full-colour video down to 0.0005 lux, roughly the light of a single candle 10 metres away, with warm white light for total darkness.
AcuSense AI Built In
Every ColorVu camera in our packages also classifies humans and vehicles, so alerts arrive only for events that matter.
Active Deterrent
On detection, the camera flashes its light and sounds an audio warning, often turning an intruder around before they reach the house.
For South African properties, colour footage changes what happens after an incident. SAPS reports and neighbourhood alerts benefit from detail such as clothing colour and vehicle colour, which black-and-white infrared simply cannot record.
4MP vs 8MP ColorVu – Which Resolution Should I Choose?
Choose 4MP ColorVu for most residential and small-business positions; it also includes a built-in microphone. Choose 8MP 4K for larger properties with longer sight lines, or where maximum detail when zooming during playback matters. The 4MP packages start at R24,900 and the 8MP 4K packages at R28,900.
The value ColorVu option
2560 x 1440 resolution, built-in microphone
The DS-2CD2047G3-LI2UY gives full-colour night footage, AcuSense detection, the active deterrent and audio recording. It suits most front gates, driveways and perimeters on suburban properties.
The flagship ColorVu option
3840 x 2160 resolution
The DS-2CD2087G3-LIY turret is the camera we install at front gates more than any other: 4K colour at night, third-generation ColorVu and AcuSense. Right for premium properties and long sight lines.
Why Choose ColorVu Over AcuSense or Turbo HD?
What ColorVu adds
- Full-colour night video, not black-and-white
- Active light-and-audio deterrent
- AcuSense AI human and vehicle detection
- Colour snapshots in your push alerts
- Stronger footage for SAPS reports
- 4MP or 8MP 4K at the lens
AcuSense AI gives the same Hikvision detection with infrared night vision, from R19,900, and Turbo HD is the cheapest wired option from R7,500. ColorVu costs between R2,000 and R11,000 more per package than the equivalent AcuSense package, and buys colour at night and an active deterrent at every camera.
ColorVu is our most-installed upgrade in Pretoria East’s established suburbs (Waterkloof, Waterkloof Ridge, Brooklyn, Monument Park, Lukasrand, Menlo Park, Hazelwood and Lynnwood Glen) and on estates such as Silver Lakes and Mooikloof Equestrian Estate, where long perimeters and dark gardens are exactly where colour at night pays off.
Easy CCTV installs ColorVu across Pretoria East, Centurion, Midrand and Johannesburg at the same fixed prices in every area. For more on our Hikvision expertise, see our Hikvision CCTV installation page.
ColorVu CCTV Installation FAQs
How much does ColorVu CCTV installation cost in Pretoria?
Hikvision ColorVu CCTV installation costs R24,900 to R57,900 fully installed. The 4MP packages are R24,900 for 3 cameras, R35,900 for 5 and R46,900 for 7. The 8MP 4K packages are R28,900 for 3 cameras, R43,900 for 5 and R57,900 for 7. Each price includes the cameras, an 8-channel NVR, PoE switch, 2TB hard drive, 25m of cat5e per camera and full installation. See the CCTV installation prices guide to compare every tier.
What is ColorVu?
ColorVu is Hikvision’s full-colour night vision. A large F1.0 aperture lens and a high-sensitivity sensor keep full-colour video in light as low as 0.0005 lux, where a standard camera switches to black-and-white infrared.
Does ColorVu really work in complete darkness?
ColorVu holds colour down to 0.0005 lux using available ambient light from street lights, garden lights or the moon. In total darkness the built-in warm white light switches on automatically to keep the image in colour, and it also acts as an active deterrent.
What is the active deterrent?
When AcuSense detects a person or vehicle in a defined zone, the camera can flash its white light and sound an audio warning at the same time. That often turns an intruder around before they reach the house, without anyone needing to act.
What is the difference between ColorVu and AcuSense?
AcuSense is the AI detection technology that filters human and vehicle events. ColorVu is the imaging technology that keeps full-colour video at night. Our ColorVu packages include both, plus the active deterrent. Our AcuSense specials include the AI detection with standard infrared night vision, from R19,900.
How much more does ColorVu cost than AcuSense?
Between R2,000 and R11,000 more per package, depending on size and resolution. A 3 camera 4MP package is R24,900 in ColorVu against R19,900 in AcuSense, and a 3 camera 4K package is R28,900 against R26,900. The extra buys full-colour night footage and an active light-and-audio deterrent in every camera.
Should I choose 4MP or 8MP 4K ColorVu?
4MP suits most residential and small-business positions and includes a built-in microphone for audio recording. 8MP 4K suits larger properties with longer sight lines, or where maximum detail when zooming during playback matters.
Can I talk through ColorVu cameras?
The 4MP ColorVu camera has a microphone for recording audio but no speaker, so it cannot talk back. If two-way audio at the gate matters, TP-Link VIGI cameras include a speaker and microphone from R10,900 installed, and Hikvision makes two-way audio cameras higher in its range.
Can I view the cameras on my phone?
Yes. The Hikvision Hik-Connect app is set up during installation. You receive push alerts with a colour snapshot whenever a human or vehicle is detected, and can view live and recorded footage from anywhere with internet.
Can I add more cameras later?
Yes. The included DS-7608NXI-K2 is an 8-channel NVR, so the 3, 5 and 7 camera packages can grow to 8 cameras on the same recorder.
What warranty comes with ColorVu cameras?
All Hikvision cameras and NVRs supplied by Easy CCTV carry the full 3-year Hikvision South African warranty, sourced through authorised local distribution. Easy CCTV adds a 12-month workmanship warranty on installation labour and handles warranty claims on your behalf.
Is installation included?
Yes. Package prices include installation with 25m of cat5e per camera, junction boxes, trunking, NVR and PoE switch installation, AcuSense detection-zone configuration, deterrent setup and Hik-Connect app setup.
