TP-Link CCTV Installation Pretoria – VIGI AI Camera Packages from R10,900

Quick Answer

A TP-Link VIGI CCTV installation in Pretoria costs R10,900 to R34,900 fully installed by Easy CCTV, depending on camera count. Four fixed-price packages are available, all using the TP-Link VIGI C340 4MP full-colour PoE bullet camera with AI human and vehicle classification, full-colour night vision and two-way audio.

  • 2 cameras: R10,900 fully installed
  • 4 cameras: R15,900 fully installed
  • 8 cameras: R26,900 fully installed
  • 10 cameras: R34,900 fully installed

Every package includes the cameras, a TP-Link VIGI NVR, a PoE switch, a 2TB surveillance hard drive, 30m of cat5e cable per camera, junction boxes, trunking, installation and VIGI app setup. TP-Link carries a 2-year warranty, against the 3-year South African warranty on Hikvision. Easy CCTV is an owner-operated CCTV installer based in Pretoria East, installing Hikvision and TP-Link security cameras across Pretoria, Centurion, Midrand and Johannesburg since 2013.

A TP-Link CCTV installation gives Pretoria homeowners wired AI security without dropping back to analogue. Easy CCTV installs TP-Link VIGI, a professional IP surveillance range with AI human and vehicle classification, full-colour night vision and two-way audio through a built-in speaker and microphone, at roughly half the cost per camera of the equivalent Hikvision system.

TP-Link is one of the world’s largest networking manufacturers and has brought the same pricing discipline to surveillance. VIGI is genuine professional hardware: PoE powered, ONVIF compliant, and recording locally to a dedicated NVR with a surveillance-grade drive. What it lacks is brand recognition in the South African CCTV market, and that is what keeps the price where it is.

Our TP-Link packages are wired IP systems running cat5e cable into a TP-Link VIGI NVR. Each is sized for a different property: 2 cameras for townhouses and flats, 4 for the average family home, 8 for full property coverage, and 10 for larger homes and business premises that need every approach covered.

What Do You Get in a TP-Link VIGI CCTV Installation?

Human and Vehicle Classification

The camera separates people and vehicles from everything else in the frame, so alerts arrive for events that matter rather than every moth, cat or moving branch.

Two-Way Audio

A built-in speaker and microphone let you hear what is happening and speak back through the VIGI app. Useful at gates, deliveries and business entrances.

Full-Colour Night Vision

Two infrared LEDs and two white LEDs, both rated to 30m. The camera holds colour in low light and switches on the white light when the light drops away entirely.

VIGI is TP-Link’s professional surveillance range, built for small and medium business sites and increasingly used on homes. It sits well clear of the consumer smart-camera market: PoE-powered cameras, ONVIF compliance, local recording to a dedicated NVR with a surveillance-grade drive, and management through the VIGI app or VIGI Security Manager on a computer. No monthly subscription and no cloud dependency.

The VIGI C340 in every package records at 2560 x 1440 with H.265+ compression, carries an IP67 rating for Highveld summer storms, and runs smart detection including line-crossing, region intrusion, region entering and exiting, object abandoned, object removal and camera tampering. Detection zones, sensitivity and notification rules are configured per camera position during installation rather than left on factory defaults.

Full hardware details are on our TP-Link product pages, covering the VIGI camera range and the VIGI NVR range.

Two-Way Audio: What TP-Link VIGI Gives You That Hikvision 4MP Does Not

Two-way audio is the feature that most often decides TP-Link over the Hikvision alternative. Most cameras at this price either have no audio or a microphone that records one way. The VIGI C340 has both a microphone and a speaker, so you get full two-way audio through the VIGI app on your phone.

In practice that changes how you use the system. A courier at the gate can be told where to leave a parcel without anyone walking outside. A domestic worker can be let in after a quick conversation. Someone loitering at the boundary wall at eleven at night can be spoken to directly, and in our experience that ends the situation far more often than a silent camera does.

The same speaker drives the active deterrent. When the camera classifies an intrusion it can sound an audible warning and flash its white light automatically, without you touching your phone, configured per camera so the front gate can behave differently to the back garden. It works whether or not you are awake, on your phone, or in the country.

For comparison, the Hikvision 4MP ColorVu camera in our ColorVu packages has a microphone but no speaker, so no talk-back. Hikvision does make cameras with two-way audio and strobe sirens, but they sit higher in the range and cost considerably more than the C340.

TP-Link VIGI or Hikvision – Which Should I Choose?

We install both and will tell you honestly which suits your property. Here is the straight comparison against the closest Hikvision equivalent.

  TP-Link VIGI C340 Hikvision ColorVu 4MP
Entry package R10,900 (2 cameras) R24,900 (3 cameras)

Night vision Full colour with white light assist, F1.6 aperture Full colour ColorVu, F1.0 aperture, stronger in very low light

Active deterrent Audible warning and white light flash on detection Light and audio deterrent on detection
Mobile app VIGI Hik-Connect
Warranty 2 year 3 year South African warranty
Range depth Single 4MP camera, 2 to 10 camera packages 4MP and 8MP 4K across AcuSense and ColorVu

Choose TP-Link VIGI when budget decides it, when two-way audio at the gate or shop counter genuinely matters, or when the property needs more cameras than a Hikvision budget will stretch to. Eight VIGI cameras installed cost roughly what three Hikvision ColorVu cameras cost, and on many properties coverage beats resolution: a blind spot at the side gate is a bigger problem than the difference between 4MP and 4K.

Choose Hikvision when you want the strongest low-light imaging available, need 8MP 4K detail on long sight lines, or value the longer 3-year South African warranty and deeper local support. Our ColorVu installation specials and AcuSense installation specials cover that side, and our Hikvision CCTV installation page explains our Hikvision expertise.

One firm rule either way: we do not mix brands on one site. VIGI cameras run on a VIGI NVR and the VIGI app, and Hikvision cameras on a Hikvision NVR and Hik-Connect. Mixing them loses brand-specific AI features, means two apps, and complicates fault-finding.

Why Choose TP-Link VIGI Over Turbo HD Analogue?

What you get when you upgrade

  • AI human and vehicle classification
  • 2560 x 1440 resolution at the lens
  • Full-colour night vision, not black-and-white infrared
  • Two-way audio through the app
  • Cat5e network cable instead of coax
  • Mobile alerts for real events only

Our Hikvision Turbo HD specials remain the cheapest wired system we offer, from R7,500, and are still the right call where existing coax can be reused. TP-Link VIGI sits one step above: cat5e cabling, higher resolution, AI detection and colour night vision instead of black-and-white infrared.

For years the price gap between analogue and AI IP was wide enough that many Pretoria homeowners stayed on analogue. TP-Link VIGI narrows it considerably: a 4 camera VIGI installation at R15,900 puts AI detection, colour at night, two-way audio and an active deterrent on a property that would previously have been quoted well above that.

If your budget is fixed below R10,000, look at Turbo HD from R7,500 or TP-Link Tapo WiFi cameras from R5,900. Our CCTV installation prices guide sets out every tier. If you can stretch to R10,900, TP-Link VIGI is a materially better wired system for the money.

TP-Link CCTV Installation in Pretoria and Across Gauteng

We install TP-Link VIGI across Pretoria, Centurion, Midrand and Johannesburg. Easy CCTV has installed CCTV since 2013, with more than 7,500 cameras across Gauteng. We are owner-operated, so the person who quotes your site is the person who installs it and the person who comes back if something needs attention.

VIGI suits townhouse complexes in Faerie Glen and Garsfontein, freestanding homes in Moreleta Park and Wingate Park, rental properties where the owner wants proper coverage without a Hikvision budget, and business premises where covering every door and yard entrance matters more than maximum resolution on two of them. Two-way audio has been particularly popular at business entrances and reception areas.

Callouts on existing systems are R750 including the first hour in Pretoria East, R950 in Centurion, Midrand and Johannesburg, or R1,200 after hours. Site inspections ahead of a package installation are free, and we handle ongoing CCTV maintenance and repairs on TP-Link VIGI systems the same as on Hikvision.

TP-Link CCTV Installation FAQs

How much does TP-Link VIGI CCTV installation cost in Pretoria?

TP-Link VIGI CCTV installation costs R10,900 for 2 cameras, R15,900 for 4 cameras, R26,900 for 8 cameras and R34,900 for 10 cameras, fully installed. Each package includes VIGI C340 4MP cameras, a VIGI NVR, PoE switch, 2TB hard drive, 30m of cat5e per camera, installation and VIGI app setup. See our CCTV installation prices guide to compare every tier.

Is TP-Link VIGI as good as Hikvision?

For most residential and small-business use, the two are close enough that price decides it. Both record 4MP at 2560 x 1440, both classify people and vehicles, and both offer full-colour night vision with an active deterrent. Hikvision holds an edge in very low light thanks to the wider F1.0 ColorVu aperture, has a deeper range including 8MP 4K, and carries a 3-year South African warranty against TP-Link’s 2 years. TP-Link wins clearly on price and adds two-way audio that the equivalent Hikvision camera does not have.

Can I talk through the cameras?

Yes. The VIGI C340 has a built-in speaker and microphone, giving true two-way audio through the VIGI app. You can hear what is happening at the gate and speak to a visitor, delivery driver or intruder from anywhere with internet.

Does it really see in colour at night?

Yes, within limits. The camera holds full colour down to 0.005 lux using ambient light from street and security lights, which covers most suburban conditions. In complete darkness it switches on its built-in white light, rated to 30m, to keep the image in colour. For the strongest possible low-light colour, Hikvision ColorVu with its F1.0 aperture is still the stronger option.

What is the active deterrent?

When the camera classifies an intrusion, it can automatically sound an audible warning through its speaker and flash its white light, which often turns someone around before they reach the house. It is configured per camera during installation, so a front gate can behave differently to a back garden where you do not want a warning every time the dog moves.

Why is TP-Link cheaper than Hikvision?

TP-Link is one of the world’s largest networking manufacturers and entered surveillance more recently, so it prices VIGI aggressively to build market share. The hardware is genuine professional equipment with PoE, ONVIF support and a proper NVR. The saving comes from market positioning and brand recognition, not a cut-down specification.

Is TP-Link VIGI available in South Africa?

Yes. VIGI is distributed locally and both cameras and NVRs are stocked in South Africa, so replacements and warranty claims are handled here. The range is newer locally than Hikvision, which is why fewer installers offer it, but supply is not a problem.

What warranty do I get?

TP-Link VIGI carries a 2-year warranty on the cameras and NVR. The Hikvision equipment we install carries a 3-year South African warranty. Our installation workmanship is covered for 12 months either way, and we handle warranty claims on your behalf.

Can I mix TP-Link cameras with my existing Hikvision system?

We do not recommend it and we do not install it that way. Although both support ONVIF, mixing means losing brand-specific AI features, running two apps and complicating fault-finding. If you already have Hikvision, stay with Hikvision. If you are starting fresh, choose one ecosystem and stay in it.

Can I add more cameras later?

It depends on your starting package. The 2 and 4 camera packages run on the 8-channel VIGI NVR1008H, so they can grow to 8 cameras on the same recorder. The 8 camera package fills that recorder completely. The 10 camera package uses a 16-channel VIGI recorder with room for 6 more cameras. If you expect to grow, say so upfront and we will specify the recorder accordingly.

Can I use my existing analogue coax cables?

No. IP cameras need cat5e network cable rather than RG59 coax. If you want to reuse existing coax, our Turbo HD specials are built for exactly that. TP-Link VIGI is best for new installations or upgrades where the cabling is being replaced anyway.

Is there a WiFi option from TP-Link?

Yes. We install TP-Link Tapo pan-tilt WiFi cameras from R5,900 for 2 cameras. They need only a power cable to each camera and record to their own memory cards, which suits rentals and complexes with cabling rules. VIGI is the better choice when you want a central recorder and continuous recording.

How long can the system record for?

The 2TB hard drive typically gives 2 to 3 weeks of continuous recording at 4MP with H.265+ compression, and considerably longer when set to record on detection events only. Larger drives are available at extra cost if you want a month or more of history.

Do I need fast internet?

No. The cameras and NVR record locally to the hard drive with no internet needed. Internet is only required for remote viewing and push notifications, and a standard fibre or LTE line is more than enough.

Is installation included in the price?

Yes. Package prices include installation with 30m of cat5e per camera, junction boxes, trunking, NVR and PoE switch installation, smart-detection configuration, deterrent setup and VIGI app setup on your phone before we leave.
