What is Hikvision AcuSense AI?
AcuSense is Hikvision’s deep-learning AI technology that classifies every moving object in the camera’s view as either a human, a vehicle, or environmental noise. The result is a system that ignores animals, blowing leaves, rain, insects, shadows and wind movement — and only alerts you when something that actually matters is happening on your property.
For South African residential and small business properties, this is the difference between a CCTV system you actively use and one you mute after the third false alarm. Mobile push notifications via the Hik-Connect app deliver only meaningful events: someone at the gate, a vehicle entering the driveway, movement in the back garden after dark.
AcuSense also supports line-crossing detection, intrusion zone detection, and loitering detection — configurable per camera based on what each position is monitoring. We set up detection zones, sensitivity thresholds and notification rules during installation, not left on factory defaults that generate ten alerts a night from your neighbour’s cat.
4MP vs 8MP — Which Resolution Should I Choose?
4MP AcuSense
2560 × 1440 resolution — sharper than 1080p analogue, with detail sufficient for face identification at the gate, number plate capture at the driveway, and clean digital zoom for incident review on most residential and small-business positions. The cost-effective AcuSense entry point for properties where 4MP detail meets the use case.
8MP / 4K AcuSense
3840 × 2160 resolution — 4K detail at the lens, giving significantly more usable image when digitally zoomed during incident playback, and wider effective coverage per camera. The right call for premium properties, longer perimeter walls where camera-to-target distance is greater, or any installation where fine-grain identification (specific facial features, small writing on packages, vehicle make/model from a distance) matters.
Why AcuSense IP Over Turbo HD Analogue?
Our Turbo HD CCTV installation specials remain the right call for properties with existing coax cabling, budget-conscious new installs, and customers who want a fixed-price entry point at R7,500. AcuSense IP sits above that — wired with cat5e network cable instead of coax, recording in higher resolution, and adding deep-learning AI detection that filters false alarms automatically.
The trade-off is straightforward: AcuSense IP costs more per camera but delivers genuinely usable mobile alerts, higher image quality, and the ability to scale into modern features like AcuSeek footage search if you ever add a compatible NVR later. For properties where you actually want to use the cameras day-to-day rather than only consult footage after an incident, AcuSense is the upgrade.
AcuSense IP CCTV Installation FAQs
What does AcuSense actually do?
AcuSense uses deep-learning AI to classify objects in the camera view as humans, vehicles, or environmental noise. It only triggers alerts for humans and vehicles, ignoring animals, weather, leaves, and other movement that would normally trigger a standard motion-detection camera.
How does AcuSense reduce false alarms?
A traditional motion-detection camera triggers on any pixel change in the image — a moth flying past the lens, a tree branch in the wind, a cat walking through the garden, all of these produce false alerts. AcuSense’s deep-learning algorithm rejects everything that is not classified as a human or vehicle, eliminating around 90% of the false alarms that make standard CCTV systems unusable.
What is the difference between AcuSense and ColorVu?
AcuSense is the AI detection technology — smart filtering of human and vehicle events. ColorVu is the imaging technology — full-colour video in near-darkness using a large-aperture lens and improved sensor. Many premium cameras combine both. Our ColorVu specials include both AcuSense AI and ColorVu colour-at-night plus active light-and-audio deterrent.
4MP or 8MP — which should I choose?
4MP is sufficient for most residential and small-business positions where camera-to-target distance is moderate and the image is mostly viewed live or reviewed at standard zoom. 8MP / 4K is the right choice for larger properties with longer sight lines, where you want maximum detail when digitally zooming during incident playback, or where you want to cover a wider area per camera.
Can I view the cameras on my phone?
Yes. The Hikvision Hik-Connect mobile app is configured during installation. You receive AcuSense push alerts whenever a human or vehicle is detected, and you can view live and recorded footage from anywhere with internet.
Do I need a fast internet connection?
No. The cameras and NVR record locally to the surveillance hard drive without an internet connection. Internet is only required if you want to view remotely from your phone or receive push notifications — a standard fibre or LTE connection is more than sufficient.
Can I use my existing analogue coax cables?
No. IP cameras require category-5e network cable rather than RG59 coax. If you have an existing analogue system you want to upgrade in place, the Turbo HD specials are designed exactly for that scenario — they run on existing coax. AcuSense IP is best for new installs or upgrades where the cabling is being replaced anyway.
How long can the system record for?
The 2TB hard drive included as standard typically provides 2 to 3 weeks of continuous recording at default 4MP settings, or roughly 5 to 10 days at 8MP. Longer retention is available with a 4TB or 6TB drive upgrade at additional cost — recommended if you want a full month or more of footage history.
Can I upgrade the system later?
Yes. The included DS-7608NXI-K2 is an 8-channel NVR, which means the 3, 5, or 7 camera packages can be expanded by adding cameras up to the channel limit. Additional licenses, larger hard drives, or upgrading to next-generation AcuSeek NVRs are all available paths.
Is installation included?
Yes. The package prices above include standard installation with 25m of cat5e cable per camera, junction boxes, cable trunking, NVR and PoE switch installation, AcuSense detection-zone configuration, sensitivity tuning, and Hik-Connect mobile app setup.
