TP-Link CCTV Installation Pretoria – VIGI AI Camera Packages from R10,900

Quick Answer

A TP-Link CCTV installation in Pretoria costs R10,900 to R34,900 fully installed by Easy CCTV, depending on camera count. Four fixed-price VIGI packages are available, all using the same 4MP full-colour PoE bullet camera with AI human and vehicle classification, full-colour night vision and two-way audio.

  • 2 cameras: R10,900 fully installed
  • 4 cameras: R15,900 fully installed
  • 8 cameras: R26,900 fully installed
  • 10 cameras: R34,900 fully installed

Every package includes the cameras, a TP-Link VIGI NVR, a PoE switch, a 2TB surveillance hard drive, 30m of cat5e cable per camera, junction boxes, trunking, full installation and VIGI app setup. TP-Link VIGI carries a 2-year warranty against the 3-year South African warranty on the Hikvision range. Easy CCTV has installed more than 7,500 cameras across Gauteng since 2013.

A TP-Link CCTV installation Pretoria homeowners can actually afford, without dropping back to analogue. Easy CCTV installs TP-Link VIGI, a professional IP surveillance range that brings AI human and vehicle classification, full-colour night vision, and two-way audio through a built-in speaker and microphone, at roughly half the cost per camera of the equivalent Hikvision system.

TP-Link CCTV installation is still new to the South African residential market, which is exactly why it is worth looking at. TP-Link is one of the largest networking manufacturers in the world and has brought the same pricing discipline to surveillance. The hardware is genuine professional equipment: PoE powered, ONVIF compliant, recording locally to a dedicated NVR with a surveillance-grade drive. The only thing missing is the brand recognition, and that is what makes the price what it is.

Our TP-Link CCTV installation packages are wired IP systems running category-5e network cable into a TP-Link VIGI NVR. Each package is sized for a different property: 2 cameras for townhouses and flats, 4 cameras for the average family home, 8 cameras for full property coverage, and 10 cameras for larger homes and business premises that need every approach covered. All four use the same 4MP full-colour bullet camera with two-way audio and active deterrent.

What You Get in a TP-Link CCTV Installation

Human and Vehicle Classification

The camera distinguishes people and vehicles from everything else in the frame, so alerts arrive for events that matter rather than every moth, cat or moving branch.

Two-Way Audio

A built-in speaker and microphone let you hear what is happening and speak back through the VIGI app. Useful at gates, deliveries and business entrances.

Full-Colour Night Vision

Two infrared LEDs and two white LEDs, both rated to 30m. The camera holds full colour in low light and switches on the white light when the light drops away entirely.

VIGI is TP-Link’s professional surveillance range, built for small and medium business sites and increasingly used on residential properties. It sits well clear of the consumer smart-camera market: PoE-powered cameras, ONVIF compliance, local recording to a dedicated NVR with a surveillance-grade hard drive, and management through the VIGI app or VIGI Security Manager on a computer. No monthly subscription, no cloud dependency, no footage held hostage behind a paywall.

The VIGI C340 used in every TP-Link CCTV installation we do records at 2560 x 1440 with H.265+ compression, carries an IP67 rating for Highveld summer storms, and runs smart detection including line-crossing, region intrusion, region entering and exiting, object abandoned, object removal and camera tampering. Detection zones, sensitivity and notification rules are configured per camera position during installation rather than left on factory defaults that generate ten alerts a night.

Full details on the hardware are on our TP-Link product pages, covering the VIGI camera range and the VIGI NVR range.

Two-Way Audio: What a TP-Link CCTV Installation Gives You That Hikvision Does Not

Two-way audio is the single feature that most often decides a TP-Link CCTV installation over the Hikvision alternative. Most cameras at this price point either have no audio at all or a microphone that records one way. The VIGI C340 has both a microphone and a speaker, which means full two-way audio through the VIGI app on your phone.

In practice that changes how you use the system. A courier standing at the gate can be told where to leave a parcel without anyone walking outside. A domestic worker can be let through the intercom conversation without a separate intercom system. Someone loitering at the boundary wall at eleven at night can be spoken to directly, and in our experience that ends the situation far more often than a silent camera does.

The same speaker drives the active deterrent. When the camera classifies an intrusion it can trigger an audible warning and flash its white light automatically, without you touching your phone. Configured per camera, so the front gate can behave differently to the camera watching the back garden. This is real-time response at the camera itself, and it is worth understanding that it works whether or not you are awake, on your phone, or in the country.

For comparison, the Hikvision 4MP ColorVu camera we install in our ColorVu packages has a microphone but no speaker, so no talk-back. Hikvision does make cameras with two-way audio and strobe sirens, but they sit higher in the range and cost considerably more than the C340.

TP-Link CCTV Installation or Hikvision – Which Should I Choose?

We install both and we will tell you honestly which one suits your property. Here is the straight comparison against the closest Hikvision equivalent.

Choose a TP-Link CCTV installation when budget is the deciding factor, when two-way audio at the gate or the shop counter genuinely matters, or when you are covering a property that needs more cameras than a Hikvision budget will stretch to. Eight VIGI cameras installed costs roughly what three Hikvision ColorVu cameras cost, and on a lot of properties coverage beats resolution. A blind spot at the side gate is a bigger problem than the difference between 4MP and 4K.

Choose Hikvision when you want the strongest low-light imaging available, when you need 8MP 4K detail on long sight lines, or when the longer 3-year South African warranty and the deeper local support network matter to you. Our ColorVu installation specials and AcuSense installation specials cover that side of the range, and our Hikvision specialist page explains where we sit as a Hikvision installer.

One firm rule either way: we do not mix brands on a single site. VIGI cameras run on a VIGI NVR and the VIGI app, Hikvision cameras run on a Hikvision NVR and Hik-Connect. Mixing the two means losing brand-specific AI features, running two mobile apps, and complicating any future fault-finding. Pick the ecosystem that fits the property and stay in it.

Why Choose a TP-Link CCTV Installation Over Turbo HD Analogue?

What you get when you upgrade

  • AI human and vehicle classification
  • 2560 x 1440 resolution at the lens
  • Full-colour night vision, not monochrome infrared
  • Two-way audio through the app
  • Cat5e network cable instead of coax
  • Mobile push alerts for real events only

Our Turbo HD CCTV installation specials remain the cheapest way into a fixed-price system, starting at R7,500, and they are still the right call where existing coax cabling can be reused. A TP-Link CCTV installation sits one step above that: wired with cat5e, recording in higher resolution, with AI detection and full-colour night vision instead of black-and-white infrared.

For a long time the price gap between analogue and AI IP was wide enough that plenty of Pretoria homeowners simply stayed on analogue and accepted the compromise. TP-Link VIGI narrows that gap considerably. A 4-camera TP-Link CCTV installation at R15,900 puts AI detection, colour at night, two-way audio and active deterrent on a property that would previously have been quoted well above that for anything comparable.

If your budget is genuinely fixed below R10,000, the Turbo HD range is still where to look, and our CCTV installation price guide sets out what each tier realistically costs. If you can stretch to R10,900, a TP-Link CCTV installation is a materially better system for the money.

TP-Link CCTV Installation Pretoria and Across Gauteng

We handle TP-Link CCTV installation Pretoria wide, plus Centurion, Midrand and Johannesburg. Easy CCTV has been installing CCTV since 2013 and has put up more than 7,500 cameras across Gauteng. We are owner-operated, which means the person who quotes your site is the person who installs it and the person who comes back if something needs attention.

The VIGI range suits townhouse complexes in Faerie Glen and Garsfontein, freestanding homes in Moreleta Park and Wingate Park, rental properties where the owner wants proper coverage without a Hikvision budget, and business premises where the priority is covering every door and yard entrance rather than putting maximum resolution on two of them. Two-way audio has been particularly popular at business entrances and reception areas.

Standard callout is R750 including the first hour, or R1,200 after hours. Site inspections ahead of a package installation are free. Once installed, we handle ongoing CCTV maintenance and repairs on TP-Link VIGI systems the same as we do on Hikvision.

TP-Link CCTV Installation Pretoria FAQs

Is TP-Link VIGI as good as Hikvision?

For most residential and small-business use, the two are close enough that price decides it. Both record 4MP at 2560 x 1440, both classify humans and vehicles, and both offer full-colour night vision with an active deterrent. Hikvision holds an edge in very low light thanks to the wider F1.0 ColorVu aperture, has a deeper range including 8MP 4K options, and carries a 3-year South African warranty against TP-Link’s 2 year. TP-Link wins clearly on price and adds two-way audio that the equivalent Hikvision camera does not have.

Can I talk through the cameras?

Yes. The VIGI C340 has a built-in speaker and microphone, giving true two-way audio through the VIGI app. You can hear what is happening at the gate and speak back to a visitor, a delivery driver or an intruder from anywhere with an internet connection.

Does it really see in colour at night?

Yes, within limits. The camera holds full colour down to 0.005 Lux using ambient light from street lights and security lights, which covers most suburban conditions. In complete darkness it switches on its built-in white light, rated to 30m, to keep the image in colour. If you want the strongest possible low-light colour performance, Hikvision ColorVu with its F1.0 aperture is still the stronger option.

What is the active deterrent?

When the camera classifies an intrusion, it can automatically trigger an audible warning through the built-in speaker and flash the white light. This often turns someone around before they reach the house. It is configured per camera during installation, so a front gate can behave differently to a camera watching a back garden where you do not want a siren going off every time the dog moves.

Why is TP-Link cheaper than Hikvision?

TP-Link is one of the world’s largest networking manufacturers and entered surveillance more recently. The VIGI range is priced aggressively to build market share against established brands. The hardware itself is genuine professional equipment with PoE, ONVIF support and a proper NVR. The saving comes from market positioning and brand recognition, not from a cut-down specification.

Is TP-Link VIGI available in South Africa?

Yes. VIGI is distributed locally and both the cameras and NVRs are stocked in South Africa, so replacements and warranty claims are handled locally rather than shipped internationally. The range is newer here than Hikvision, which is why fewer installers offer it, but supply is not a problem.

What warranty do I get?

TP-Link VIGI carries a 2-year warranty on both the cameras and the NVR. For comparison, the Hikvision equipment we install carries a 3-year South African warranty. Our installation workmanship is covered either way, and we handle warranty claims on your behalf rather than sending you to the distributor.

Can I mix TP-Link cameras with my existing Hikvision system?

We do not recommend it and we do not install it that way. Although both brands support ONVIF, mixing them means losing brand-specific AI features, running two mobile apps, and complicating any future fault-finding. If you already have Hikvision, stay with Hikvision. If you are starting fresh, choose one ecosystem and stay in it.

Can I expand the 8 camera package later?

It depends which package you start on. The 2 and 4 camera packages run on the 8-channel VIGI NVR1008H, so they can grow to 8 cameras on the same recorder. The 8 camera package fills that recorder completely, with no spare channels. The 10 camera package is the first one built on a 16-channel VIGI recorder, so it has room for another 6 cameras without replacing anything. If you expect to grow beyond your starting count, say so up front and we will spec the recorder accordingly rather than swapping it out later.

Can I use my existing analogue coax cables?

No. IP cameras need category-5e network cable rather than RG59 coax. If you have existing coax you want to reuse, our Turbo HD specials are built for exactly that scenario. TP-Link VIGI is best for new installations or upgrades where cabling is being replaced anyway.

How long can the system record for?

The 2TB hard drive included as standard typically gives 2 to 3 weeks of continuous recording at 4MP with H.265+ compression, and considerably longer if set to record on detection events only. Larger drives are available at additional cost if you want a full month or more of history.

Do I need fast internet?

No. The cameras and NVR record locally to the hard drive with no internet connection required. Internet is only needed for remote viewing and push notifications on your phone. A standard fibre or LTE line is more than enough.

Is installation included in the TP-Link CCTV installation price?

Yes. The package prices include standard installation with 30m of cat5e cable per camera, junction boxes, cable trunking, NVR and PoE switch installation, smart-detection zone configuration, sensitivity tuning, deterrent setup and VIGI mobile app configuration on your phone before we leave site.
