The dedicated ANPR licence-plate recognition camera
Standard CCTV cameras can record vehicles passing through a gate, and a sharp camera can capture a number plate that you can read in the footage. ANPR is different. The Hikvision iDS-2CD7A46G0/P-IZHS is a dedicated Automatic Number Plate Recognition camera with specialised hardware: optical and electronic specs tuned for plate capture, embedded ANPR processing that reads the plate text in real time, and integration with vehicle whitelists, blacklists, and gate-control systems.
Used at estate boom gates, complex access points, business car parks, and industrial yards, ANPR turns vehicle entry from passive recording into active management. The system can automatically open the boom for whitelisted plates, log every vehicle entering and leaving with a timestamp and plate number, alert security to blacklisted plates approaching, and provide an instantly-searchable database of vehicle activity rather than hours of footage to scroll through.
What this camera is actually good at
- 4MP ANPR-tuned image sensor. Optical and electronic characteristics specifically calibrated for licence-plate capture, not general surveillance.
- Onboard ANPR processing. Reads the plate text in real time, no server-side processing required.
- Motorised varifocal lens for precise framing of the gate or boom.
- IR illumination and supplementary lighting tuned for plate readability at night.
- Embedded vehicle whitelist and blacklist support.
- Alarm and gate-control I/O for direct integration with boom barriers and access systems.
- IP67 weather-sealed housing.
Where this camera belongs
- Estate boom gates with whitelisted resident-vehicle access
- Complex and cluster access points requiring vehicle logging
- Business car parks with permitted-vehicle access control
- Industrial yards with delivery and contractor vehicle logging requirements
- Hospitality venues with valet and guest-vehicle tracking
ANPR is a specialist installation, not a standard camera install
ANPR cameras need specific positioning relative to the boom or gate (typically 4 to 6 metres in front of the boom, at a 15 to 30 degree angle to the lane), specific mounting heights, and careful calibration of the focal length, focus, and exposure to deliver readable plates in all light conditions. We have done dozens of these installations across estates and complexes in Pretoria and Johannesburg.
This camera typically pairs with a Turbo HD or IP DVR/NVR depending on the rest of the site infrastructure. Smaller installations use the iDS-7104HQHI-M1/S as the recording platform; larger estates run on full IP NVRs.
ANPR installation requires site survey
Every ANPR installation is genuinely site-specific. Different gate geometry, different traffic patterns, different lighting conditions, different integration requirements with the existing access-control system. For ANPR projects, contact us directly for a site survey across Pretoria East, Centurion, Midrand, and Johannesburg.
