The Hikvision DS-2CD2047G3-LI2UY 2.8mm is the camera you install when you want active response at residential scale, in a body small enough to mount under an eave or above a side door without dominating the wall.

For most residential side-of-house and back-garden positions, a passive ColorVu camera is fine. The active strobe makes the most difference at the front of the property: the porch, the front gate area, the section of perimeter wall that faces the pavement. Anywhere an opportunistic intruder might first appear, the strobe firing and the siren sounding usually ends the event before it starts.

• The DS-2CD2086G2H-I 8MP ColorVu drops the active deterrent but doubles the resolution. The right call when identification quality is the absolute priority.
• The DS-2CD2087G3-LIY G3 ColorVu 8MP is the current-generation 8MP flagship, also passive.

• The DS-2CD2046G2-IU/SL is an alternative entry-level 4MP camera with active strobe and siren, without the latest G3 ColorVu sensor.

Active deterrent only works as well as its configuration

Detection zones, sensitivity thresholds, schedules, and trigger conditions all need careful setup.
