The full-power 4MP AcuSense bullet with active deterrent
If the entry-level DS-2CD2046G2H-I2U/SL is the camera that talks back at small-property scale, the Hikvision DS-2CD2T46G2H-IS2U/SL 2.8mm is what you install when the property is bigger, the perimeter is longer, and the front-gate position needs to project further into the dark. Same active strobe, same siren, same two-way audio, same AcuSense AI. The difference is the housing: bigger body, more powerful IR illumination (up to 60 metres versus 30 on the entry version), and the build quality that survives being mounted in exposed positions for years.
This is the camera we put on the front gates of larger homes, the entry boom of cluster complexes, the perimeter walls of properties that border open ground. The position where the trespasser shows up first, sees the strobe fire, hears the siren, and decides not to be on this property tonight.
What this camera is actually good at
- 4MP resolution with the wide 2.8mm lens. 102° field of view. The whole gate, driveway entrance, or perimeter section captured at usable detail.
- Built-in white-light strobe and siren. Triggered by AcuSense human classification. The strobe is bright enough to be visible from outside the property line, the siren loud enough that neighbours hear it. Real, immediate response.
- Two-way audio with high-quality microphone and speaker. Speak to a delivery person from your phone, or warn off a trespasser directly through the camera. Hikvision’s audio implementation is genuinely usable, not the tinny throwaway feature it is on some competitors.
- Up to 60 metres of IR illumination. Long-throw infrared for total-darkness coverage of long driveways and perimeter walls.
- AcuSense onboard AI. Critical. Without proper human-vehicle classification, the strobe and siren would fire at every cat and become unusable.
- 120 dB true WDR. Handles the worst lighting transitions cleanly. Bright street lights against dark gates, headlights into shadow, sunset through a perimeter wall.
- IP67 weather-sealed and IK10 vandal-resistant. Built for exposed mounting and intentional damage attempts.
- Alarm input and output terminals. Integrate with your electric fence, alarm panel, or external sirens.
Where this camera belongs on your property
- Front gates of larger homes where the gate is more than 10 metres from the house and needs its own active deterrent
- Smallholding entry points where the next response is far away and the camera needs to handle the first 30 seconds itself
- Cluster complex boom gates as the active-response camera covering the access point
- Perimeter walls bordering open ground (vacant stands, alleyways, parks) where opportunistic intrusion is the main risk
- Commercial property after-hours protection where active deterrent meaningfully reduces the time-to-response
If you want different focal length or detail
- The 4mm version of this same camera is the right call for longer driveways, deeper perimeter views, or any position where the camera is more than 12 metres from where you want detail.
- The DS-2CD2086G2H-I ColorVu 8MP doubles the resolution and gives full-colour night footage, but is a passive camera (no strobe). The right call when identification quality matters more than active deterrent at that specific position.
- The DS-2CD2646G2HT-IZS 2.8 to 12mm swaps the fixed lens for a motorised zoom. Useful when one camera position needs to flex between wide and tight views. Again, passive, without strobe.
If you want to compare at this level
- The DS-2CD2T46G2-ISU/SL is the older T-series model with strobe, still a strong performer at a lower price point.
- The DS-2CD2T46G2H-2I 2.8mm is the smaller-bodied passive camera, useful for under-eaves and side-passage positions where the bigger active-strobe housing is overkill.
- The entry-level DS-2CD2046G2H-I2U/SL 2.8mm is the budget-friendly version of the same active-deterrent concept. Smaller IR range, more compact housing, similar AI and strobe.
For complete properties, this camera works with any current Hikvision NVR. The DS-7616NXI-K2 16-channel NVR is the right pairing for 6+ camera homes wanting room to grow. Our home CCTV installation guide covers package design by property type.
Active deterrence is a configuration job, not just a hardware feature
The strobe and siren on this camera are powerful. Powerful is dangerous when it fires at the wrong things. The whole point of AcuSense is that the strobe only triggers when an actual human enters a properly drawn detection zone, during configured times, when the system is in armed mode. Setting all of that up is the work that turns this camera from a piece of impressive hardware into a security tool that you actually trust to operate while you sleep.
We do that configuration work as standard on every install across Pretoria East, Centurion, Midrand, and Johannesburg. Live-tested with real-person detection and false-positive checks before we leave.

How Hikvision active-deterrent cameras work
Active-deterrent cameras combine AcuSense AI with audible siren and white-light strobe to deter intruders the moment they are detected.
