One camera, eyes everywhere
Fixed cameras are great at watching specific places. They are not great at watching areas. If you have ever stood on the patio of a smallholding outside Centurion looking at a 4-hectare property and thought ‘how on earth do I cover all of this without a forest of cameras?’, this is the camera that answers that question.
The Hikvision DS-2AE4225TI-D is a Turbo HD PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) camera with a 25x optical zoom. From a single mounting point on the corner of a building or the top of a pole, it sweeps a full 360° horizontally, tilts down to the ground, and zooms from a wide situational-awareness view all the way to reading a face or number plate at 100+ metres. One camera position, the coverage equivalent of five fixed cameras, and the ability to actively chase rather than passively wait.
What this camera is actually good at
- 25x optical zoom with auto-focus that tracks the subject. Wide-angle when nothing is happening. Close enough to identify a face by the time you are paying attention.
- 360° endless pan and 90° tilt. There is no blind angle. If you can see it from the camera’s position, the camera can be pointed at it.
- Pre-set patrol routes and pattern recording. Set up six positions around the property (gate, gardener’s accommodation, tool shed, perimeter run, pool, vehicle entrance) and the camera cycles through them automatically all day.
- 120 dB true WDR for handling the bright open-ground-into-shaded-tree-line transitions that wreck cheaper PTZ cameras during the day.
- IP66 weather-sealed housing. Designed for full outdoor pole or mast mounting in dust, hail, and Highveld thunderstorms.
- Turbo HD coaxial output. Runs over the same RG59 coax you would use for analogue cameras, into a Hikvision Turbo HD DVR. The right choice when you are upgrading an existing analogue system and want to keep the cabling.
Where this camera makes the most sense
We install PTZ cameras like this one on:
- Smallholdings and plots outside Pretoria and Centurion, where the property is too big for fixed cameras to cover economically
- Industrial yards and warehouses, covering open floor area, vehicle movement, and loading bays from a single elevated mount
- Security estates and large stands, sweeping the perimeter and zooming in on whichever section of fence triggered an alarm
- Sports fields, school grounds, and parking areas, anywhere a single lens needs to cover a zone rather than a point
The DS-2AE4225TI-D is a Turbo HD (analogue/coaxial) unit, which makes it the right call when you are upgrading an existing DVR-based system. If you are building a new IP-based installation from scratch, you will usually want one of these instead:
- The DS-2DE2C400IWG/W is a 4MP IP mini-PTZ with built-in Wi-Fi, the right call for smaller properties wanting a simple all-in-one PTZ on the network.
- The DS-2DE5425IWG-E(B) is the IP-network step up: 4MP, DarkFighter low-light, AcuSense AI, and the same 25x zoom range. The PTZ we install on most modern IP estate and commercial systems.
Camera and recorder pairings
For the matched recorder pairing on IP-based installations, the DS-7616NXI-K2 16-channel NVR gives you room to add fixed AcuSense cameras alongside the PTZ later. Most large-property setups use both. For Turbo HD installations where this camera is the right choice, the matched DVR is a Hikvision Turbo HD recorder of comparable channel count.
A note on PTZ installation
A PTZ camera is only as good as its mounting position and its preset configuration. We have replaced too many installed-and-forgotten PTZ units that were pointing at the same patch of grass for three years because nobody set up the patrol patterns properly. Our Hikvision installer team sets the presets, the patrol cycles, the home position, and the integration with the rest of the system, so it actually does what a PTZ is supposed to do.
We cover Pretoria East, Centurion, Midrand, and Johannesburg for installation. Pricing on the CCTV installation prices page. Full 3-year Hikvision South Africa warranty through authorised distribution.
