The commercial-grade 16-channel NVR with 4-bay storage
The standard DS-7616NXI-K2 is the right NVR for most homes and small businesses. The Hikvision DS-7716NXI-I4/S is what you install when the site requires more: longer retention, hard-drive redundancy, and commercial-grade reliability that lets the recorder keep working through individual drive failures.
The /I4 in the model name designates four SATA hard drive bays (versus two on the standard residential units). That capacity can be used for raw additional storage, for RAID configurations that survive individual drive failures, or for tiered storage strategies that keep recent footage on faster drives and archive older footage onto slower large-capacity drives. Same AcuSense smart search, same 16-channel capacity, same Hik-Connect mobile integration as the residential 16-channel unit, with the storage architecture designed for installations where ‘the recorder went offline’ is not an acceptable status.
What this NVR is actually good at
- 16 channels of IP camera capacity. Up to 12MP per camera.
- 4 SATA bays up to 16TB per drive. Up to 64TB total raw capacity.
- RAID configuration support. RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10 for redundancy and performance.
- AcuSense smart search across all channels.
- H.265+ compression. Doubles effective storage versus older H.264.
- Hot-swappable drive bays. Replace failed drives without taking the system offline.
- Dual gigabit network ports. For redundant network connectivity or separated camera and management networks.
- 4K HDMI output. Full-resolution live view.
- Multi-user access. Granular permissions for different roles.
- Alarm I/O terminals. Integration with site alarm and access control systems.
Where this NVR is the right answer
- Small commercial sites requiring extended retention or operational continuity through drive failures
- Body corporate installations where the body corporate is responsible for years of evidence retention
- Healthcare and professional offices with regulatory retention requirements
- Retail businesses wanting to keep months of footage for fraud and shrinkage investigation
- Larger smallholdings and estates where the next response is far away and the recording side cannot be allowed to fail
- Properties currently planning future system expansion within the 16-camera limit
This is the non-PoE version
For most fresh installs, the DS-7716NXI-I4/16P/S with the built-in 16-port PoE switch is the more sensible choice. The non-PoE version is the right call when an existing PoE switch infrastructure is on site, when the camera distribution requires multiple separate switches anyway, or when the cabinet design requires the NVR and PoE switch to be physically separate units.
If you want different capacity
- The DS-7716NXI-I4/16P/S is the same recorder with built-in 16-port PoE.
- The DS-7732NXI-I4/S doubles to 32 channels with the same 4-bay storage.
- The DS-7732NXI-I4/16P/S is the 32-channel version with built-in 16-port PoE.
- The DS-7616NXI-K2 is the residential-grade 16-channel option without 4-bay storage. The right call when commercial-grade reliability is not a hard requirement and the budget is tighter.
Camera pairings
Pairs cleanly with the full Hikvision IP camera range. For commercial-grade sites, the DS-2CD2T46G2H-4I 4MP AcuSense is a strong default; the DS-2CD2086G2H-I 8MP ColorVu for high-priority identification points. PTZ and LPR cameras for entry points are also typical on commercial 16-channel installs.
Commercial installations need specialist setup
RAID configuration, multi-user permission structures, network redundancy, and alarm integration all matter. We do that design and installation work across Pretoria East, Centurion, Midrand, and Johannesburg. Larger commercial sites are scoped during a free site inspection. Contact us to arrange.
