Same idea as the bullet-form DS-2CE19D0T-VFIT3F: a 2.7 to 13.5mm focal length range adjustable by hand on installation, then locked in place. The right call for awkward indoor positions, replacement installations, and any turret position where standard 2.8mm or 3.6mm fixed lenses do not give the right field of view.
