The 2MP perimeter reach camera
Not every perimeter position needs 4MP detail. On long boundary walls watching for movement rather than specific identification, on access roads where the AI matters more than pixel count, and on multi-camera installs where the budget needs to stretch across many positions, the Hikvision DS-2CD2T26G2-4I with the 6mm lens is the pragmatic choice. 2MP resolution, AcuSense human and vehicle classification, T-series long-range IR, and a tight 6mm lens that delivers usable detail at 15 to 25 metres.
The 6mm focal length is genuinely tight: roughly a 56° horizontal field of view, narrower than the more common 2.8mm and 4mm options. That trade-off is the whole point. In return for less peripheral coverage, you get usable detail at distances where wider lenses turn people into smudges.
What this camera is actually good at
- 2MP resolution. Sharp at the centre of the frame, enough for usable detection and movement classification at perimeter distances.
- Tight 6mm lens. Roughly 56° horizontal field of view. Designed for reach rather than scene coverage.
- AcuSense onboard AI. Human and vehicle classification on the camera itself. Filters out the cats, the dogs, the moths around the IR LEDs.
- T-series long-range IR. Up to 60 metres of supplementary illumination in total darkness.
- 120 dB WDR. Harsh light handled cleanly.
- IP67 weather-sealed. Outdoor rated for full perimeter mounting.
- H.265+ compression. Storage-efficient at 2MP.
Where this camera belongs on your property
- Long boundary walls watching for movement rather than identifying specific faces
- Smallholding access roads covering the approach at 20-plus metres
- Industrial site perimeters where multi-camera coverage is more important than per-camera resolution
- Estate boundary monitoring at the edges where the body corporate prioritises coverage breadth
- Supplementary perimeter cameras on multi-camera installs where higher-resolution units cover the high-value positions
If you want more pixels at this distance
- The DS-2CD2T46G2-4I 6mm is the 4MP version of this same camera. Same 6mm reach, doubled resolution. The right step up when identification at distance matters.
- The DS-2CD2T46G2-ISU/SL drops to a wider 4mm lens but adds active strobe and siren, at 4MP resolution.
- The DS-2CD2T46G2H-2I 4mm is the compact-housing 4MP version with a less tight lens.
If you want to compare at this level
- The DS-2CD2T26G2-ISU/SL 4mm is the same 2MP T-series body with a 4mm lens and built-in strobe and siren.
- The DS-2CD2T26G2-ISU/SL 6mm is the same 2MP T-series body at 6mm focal length with active strobe and siren.
