For most townhouses, cluster homes, and small home installations, this is the right NVR to install. The Hikvision DS-7104NI-Q1/4P is a 4-channel network video recorder with a built-in 4-port PoE switch on the back. Each camera plugs directly into the recorder over a single Cat6 cable that carries both data and power. No separate PoE switch needed. No second unit to fail or add complexity. The cleanest possible installation footprint for a small CCTV system.

The /4P version is what we install in 9 out of 10 fresh 4-camera home jobs. The price premium over the non-PoE version is small, and the simplification it brings to the installation (one unit instead of two, half as much cabling at the cabinet end, fewer points of failure) is worth it every time.
