The 2.8mm version of the compact G3 ColorVu bullet is the wide-angle camera for porches and back yards. The Hikvision DS-2CD2047G3-LIY with the 4mm lens is the version we install when the camera is more than 8 metres from what you want to identify, but a full-size T-series body is more camera than the position needs.

This is a popular pairing in mid-sized homes and townhouses. The 2.8mm covers immediate areas around a front porch or patio. The 4mm covers across the yard, down a side passage, or across the parking bay, with full-colour night rendering at distance and a smaller form factor than the bigger T-series cameras.

What this camera is actually good at

• 4MP resolution with latest-generation ColorVu. Refined low-light colour fidelity over the G2H series. Cleaner image at the worst light levels.
• Tighter 4mm lens. Roughly 84° horizontal view. Less peripheral coverage, more usable identification detail per person in frame at 8 to 12 metres.
• Compact 47-series housing. Smaller footprint than the T-series bullets. Sits cleanly under eaves and on side walls.
• Built-in supplementary white light. Maintains colour rendering when ambient light drops too low for unaided ColorVu.
• 120 dB WDR. Bright-into-dark transitions handled cleanly.
