The 4MP active-deterrent bullet
Most CCTV cameras are passive. They watch, they record, they alert your phone, and at that point the responsibility for doing something about it shifts to you, your security company, or SAPS. By the time anyone arrives, the trespasser has had two minutes uninterrupted on your property.
The Hikvision DS-2CD2T46G2-ISU/SL changes that timing. Built into the camera body is a high-intensity white strobe light and an audible siren. When a person enters the camera’s detection zone (after AcuSense AI has confirmed it is actually a person, not a cat or a moth), the strobe fires and the siren sounds. Most opportunistic trespassers turn around immediately. They came expecting a passive camera and got an active deterrent instead.
What this camera is actually good at
- 4MP resolution. Sharp face and number-plate detail in normal use, plus the recorded footage of the trespasser turning to flee from the strobe.
- Built-in active strobe and siren. Automatically fires when AcuSense classifies a real human entering a configured detection zone. Trespasser flees on their own, often before a security response is even needed.
- AcuSense AI classification. Critical here, because the strobe and siren must only fire on real people. Cats setting off the deterrent at 2am is exactly the situation we are designing against.
- Two-way audio. Built-in microphone and speaker. Talk to a delivery person at the gate from your phone, or shout directly through the camera at someone who should not be on your property.
- DarkFighter low-light technology. Useful detail when the strobe is not active, in light levels well below where standard cameras give up.
- 60-metre IR illumination for total-darkness coverage between active-deterrent events.
- IP67 weather-sealed and IK10 vandal-resistant housing. Designed to survive both Pretoria weather and someone trying to disable it physically.
- Alarm I/O terminals for integration with electric fence energisers and alarm panels.
Where this camera belongs on your property
- Front gates and perimeter walls where active deterrent matters as the first-line response
- Smallholding entry points where the next response is far away and the camera needs to handle the first 30 seconds itself
- Cluster complex boom gates as the active-response camera covering the access point
- Perimeter walls bordering open ground (vacant stands, alleyways, parks) where opportunistic intrusion is the main risk
- Commercial property after-hours protection where active deterrent meaningfully reduces the time-to-response
If you want different focal length or features
- The DS-2CD2T46G2H-IS2U/SL 2.8mm is the current G2H-generation version of this camera with refined low-light sensor.
- The DS-2CD2086G2H-I 8MP ColorVu doubles the pixels and gives you full-colour night footage but drops the active strobe.
- The DS-2CD2646G2HT-IZS 2.8 to 12mm swaps to a motorised zoom lens, also passive (no strobe).
If you want passive AcuSense or smaller form factor
- The DS-2CD2T46G2H-2I is the compact-housing passive version (no strobe). The right call when active deterrent is not the priority and a smaller, lower-profile camera fits the position.
- The DS-2CD2046G2-IU/SL is the entry-level alternative with the same active-deterrent concept.
For complete properties, this camera works with any current Hikvision NVR. The DS-7616NXI-K2 16-channel NVR is the right pairing for 6+ camera homes wanting room to grow. Our home CCTV installation guide covers package design.
Active deterrent is a configuration job, not just a hardware feature
The strobe and siren on this camera are powerful. Powerful is dangerous when it fires at the wrong things. The whole point of AcuSense is that the strobe only triggers when an actual human enters a properly drawn detection zone, during configured times, when the system is in armed mode. Setting all of that up is the work that turns this camera from a piece of impressive hardware into a security tool that you actually trust to operate while you sleep.
We do that configuration work as standard on every install across Pretoria East, Centurion, Midrand, and Johannesburg. Live-tested with real-person detection and false-positive checks before we leave.
